Pasko sa Sugbo
This is an annual celebration that occurs in the Fuente Osmeña Rotunda. This is organized by the government of Cebu to uphold the typical way of merry-making of the typical Cebuanos. Pasko sa Sugbo will feature the various amazing talents of the Cebuanos. Starting early December, every night is going to be sponsored by a particular establishment or institution, may it be a school, private or non-private institution. The customary highlights of this affair are the cultural night which will feature Cebu’s cultural dances, literature and plays. Some nights would also be featuring Cebuano live bands and singers. Basically, every night is going to be a night of spectacle. The Pasko sa Sugbo will run on the whole month of December but usually it will extend until the grand Sinulog Festival on January.

Sinulog Festival
The most grandiose and extravagant festival in the season happens in Cebu City. The celebration of Sinulog in Cebu is considered the Mother of all Festivals. Every January, when Sinulog is commemorated, the streets are filled with people from all walks of life. Street parties, street dancing, loud drumbeats are just few of the grand festivities, as the entire island of Cebu spreads its reverberating drumbeats of praise for our beloved patron, Señor Sto. Niño. The Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu, will become the seat and centre of the fiesta celebration. Thousands of devotees will go to the church despite the inconveniences brought by some inevitable circumstances. The Sinulog Festival has always been an anticipated event for all Cebuanos more so the Sinulog Mardi Gras that has always drawn the crowd’s interest. This is greatly participated by the flamboyant dances of the different delegates from the various parts of the country. The Sinulog Festival is adhered by people in various ways, for the devotees, it’s a time to pay reverence to the Holy Child. For some, it’s a season to celebrate aesthetic vacation and amusement; but above all, it is a celebration that marks Cebu as the Seat of the Island Festivals in the country.

Octoberfest and Halloween
Sooner than the highlights of Pasko Sa Sugbo on December and the grandiose festivities of Sinulog Festival on January, the whole month of October and November are packed with big celebrations. The entire month of October is being devoted to all the drunkards in the world as it celebrates a month long beer festival, the annual Octoberfest which is sponsored by San Miguel Beer. This celebration thrashes out series of concerts, gigs and parties happening at the various hotspots and drinking pubs in Cebu, for as long as the presence of beer is there.

Nevertheless, the end part of October and the early part of November open the commencement of the Halloween Parties. This pagan celebration has still been observed not to bring back pagan customs but just for the sake of entertainment and enjoyment. The theme would always be: “the scarier the better”.
