Cebuanos do not need Lozada’s visit to know the truth

Vice Mayor Michael Rama said that the Cebuanos doesn’t need Senate witness Rodolfo Lozada Jr. for us to know the truth.

The Provincial Board at the Capitol wants the Senate inquiry on the broadband scandal to be more credible and systematic.

Rama clarified that Lozada is welcome in Cebu, he also stated that the Cebuanos are already convinced that corruption is rampant and they do not need somebody to tell them about it.

“It’s not that he is not welcome. I just feel that we really should be behind, not a person, but the truth,” Vice Mayor Rama said.

People Power Commemoration

The People Power Revolution also known as The EDSA Revolution of 1986 that toppled former president Ferdinand Marcos’ tyrannous regime over the Philippines. It was a series of uprisings and nonviolent prayerful mass street demonstrations that culminated from the long running dictatorial reign of former president Ferdinand Marcos which lasted for 20 years.

“the revolution that surprised the world”

The majority of the events took place at Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, more commonly known by its acronym as EDSA. The said avenue is located at Quezon City, Metro Manila that was flooded with more than 200, 000 involved Filipino civilians as well as military and political figures. The revolution started from the 22nd of February up to 25th 1986 that made Marcos fled Malacañang Palace and conceded to Corazon Aquino as President of the Philippines.

“History repeats itself”

Years have passed and the democratic political system of the Philippines is still flawed and fragile. Developments in regards to the democracy are still hindered by patronage politics and the resources are still at the hands of the few. The fall of Marcos and the revolutions however, collapsed communist movements and restored the democratic institutions after thirteen years of dictatorial rule.

“We Americans like to think we taught the Filipinos democracy; well, tonight they are teaching the world.” - Bob Simon
